U.S. Republicans have long boasted of their mythical self-reliance, and
blasted Democrats for taxing them to help the shiftless poor in places like New
York City.
Why is it then that most Republican-voting states receive more in
federal dollars than they pay in taxes, while the big Democrat-voting
states pay more to the federal treasury than they receive back?
Liberal states such as New York and California have been subsidizing
conservative states for years.
When can we expect conservative shouters in the media to start complaining
about rural Republicans feeding at the public trough?
